MPF publishes the feasibility study developed under the first phase of the Skilled Driver Mobility for the EU (SDM4EU) project.

Assessing viable mobility pathways for professional drivers

Implemented as a Technical Assistance Support (TAS) project, the first phase of SDM4EU examined the feasibility of developing legal mobility pathways for professional commercial drivers from Talent Partnership countries to selected EU Member States. The feasibility assessment, carried out by the International Road Transport Union (IRU), mapped the legal, institutional and operational conditions for training commercial drivers and identified viable mobility pathways to the EU.

From feasibility to implementation

The assessment findings, together with the broader results of the first phase, informed the development of Skilled Driver Mobility for Europe II (SDM4EU II), which moves from feasibility analysis to testing concrete mobility pathways between Egypt and Morocco and Romania and Italy.

The second phase will support EU-aligned training and qualification programmes for 600 drivers, with 200 candidates expected to undertake mobility to the EU. It will also strengthen local training capacity through Training of Trainers, support the qualification, mobility and integration of selected drivers, and document the tested approach as a practical model that could inform similar Talent Partnership pathways in the road transport sector.

The publication of the feasibility study provides insight into the analysis and evidence that helped shape this transition from assessment to implementation.
